More than a quarter of British families plan to take their holiday in the UK this year rather than spend money to travel overseas, a new survey revealed.
Research carried out by TomTom found that millions of people are not intending to go abroad this summer, choosing to stay closer to home.

Figures suggest that 59 per cent of families believe they could save up to £1,000 by holidaying in the UK.
Damian Woodward, vice president for TomTom UK and Ireland, said: "Because people are having to tighten their holiday budgets due to the economic climate, we decided to launch a Ticket 2 Drive promotion in the UK, for the very first time.
"It gives people over 1,500 discounts and two-for-one deals on sports and leisure activities, hotels and spas."
According to the survey, 47 per cent of dads planning a UK holiday think a trip to the zoo or theme park is the best way to keep kids occupied this summer.
