Scotland's favourite names of 2008 revealed

Unusual baby names have rocketed up the chart of the most popular names in Scotland.

Nieve was the fastest growing girls name, moving up 130 places, with Kayden climbing 46 places.

He said: "Almost 7,000 different names were chosen this year and around 1,800 boys and 2,600 girls were given unique names.

"There is one new entrant in the top 20 – Aaron. Jayden, Max and Lucas are new entrants in the top 50."

Boys names that became less popular were John, Kieran, Ross and the traditionally Scottish sounding Fraser.

Two girls names became new in the top 10, Ava and Hannah both joining the list.

Freya, Leah and Holly were also three new entries in the top 20, with traditional names such as Jennifer sliding down.
