2008/01/24 - £30k nannies in demand

Nannies in the UK are getting paid more than ever, with some in central London taking home an annual wage of £30,000 per year. According to a survey, the salary of London nannies not living in their clients' homes has doubled in the past decade.

The average earnings of a daily nanny are now £33,179, while live-in nannies' earn around £24,545.

Outside of the capital, in the surburbs and home counties, daily nannies earn around £25,500, while live-in nannies command £19,988.

Meanwhile, rural nannies earn significantly less - live-in nannies are paid £17,797 and daily nannies £21,937.

Speaking to the Financial Times, Imperial Nannies of Kensington said: "The most successful and popular nannies are the ones who dedicate themselves to their employer, show flexibility and stay long term."

The poll was conducted by Britain's biggest payroll company for nannies' employers, Nannytax, and Nursery World magazine.
