Families looking for something slightly different this summer are being encouraged to go mountain climbing with their young children.
A tarmac pathway has been placed along one of the ancient routes up Mt Snowdon, in Wales, in a bid to make it more accessible to disabled people and parents with children in pushchairs.
Ian Henderson, secretary of the Llanberis rescue team, said: "Snowdon is many things to many people. To climbers Snowdon is a mountain first and foremost while to others it's a theme park.
"Tarmacking part of the path is a necessary evil to make the mountain more accessible. Perhaps we'll see fewer calls to twisted ankles as a result of this but we'll have to wait and see."
One potential choice for parents looking to entertain their mini mountain-climbers while enjoying a hike themselves is the Baby Weavers Condour All-in-One Travel System.
For £239, £130 less than the recommended retail price on Kiddicare.com, parents will be able to cover all their bases with a buggy, carrycot, car seat and changing bag.
The system is ideal for taking babies aged from birth to three years old out and about and also offers height-adjustable handles, which could be a great addition for parents taking their children on long walks or rambles.
With a five-point safety harness and fixed or swivel wheels, it also creates an incredibly safe environment for youngsters - again, something that will be important to parents thinking of walking up Mt Snowdon.
There is also a raincover and an adjustable leg rest so infants should remain comfortable come rain or shine.
