I've had to use shields for breastfeeding as my daughter has struggled to latch on without so I use them with every feed. These don't stick to you very well so are awkward to stay on, especially during winding. They advertise being closer to baby but you are no closer with these shields! The biggest downside of these shields for me is that they don't come with a case to keep them in! Once they are sterilised you wouldn't have anything to put them in. I had to use a case from an old pair of a different make. Otherwise these would be fairly useless! I have used a better shield, but these do work and my daughter can feed using them.
I've had better
Breastfeeding mum
I had these for my first baby and never needed them. 2nd baby didn't feed so well, so after several painful days with sore/cracked nipples and eventually thrush/mastitis these shields were essential. And next day delivery was a god send, especially as can't get to shops myself after a c- section and with baby& toddler! Only criticism is they can't go in my steam steriliser, which is a pain when (esp with Thrush) I need to ensure they are clean and sterile before every use.
Great for sore nipples
Mum of 2
Ok so unable to use these just yet as a few weeks to go but they were recommended to me and I can't fault the service nor the delivery.
Look great.
I didnt intend of using nipple shields to start of with but when my son was born he could not feed of me, i was in hospital for 5 days trying to get him to feed, he could do it, but it was very difficult for him and he got so wound up and i had to have a midwife there at hand all the time. Eventually they suggested a nipple shield. As soon as i put it on he was away! If it wasnt for these then i could not of breastfed my son, so big thankyou. Still feeding the 10 month fatty :D.
I initially bought these as a "just in case" but they ended up being real life savers! My newborn would not attach at all due to slightly small nipples and the after effect of diamorphine during labour making him sleepy for 48hrs. After 3 days of hand expressing milk and feeding via a syringe i was feeling very bruised and baby had lost 12oz! My MW suggested using nipple shields and I haven't looked back, these are truly amazing and the only thing that has allowed me to breastfeed. Baby took to the shields straight away and has been gaining weight ever since. I've been using these for 8 days now and they are starting to bring my nipples out so that it is easier for baby to latch on without the shields. My breastfeeding support worker has suggested starting to commence feeding with these and then remove half way through a feed to initiate weaning from the shield and it is working although takes some patience! All in all a fabulous product which without I would have been using a bottle. Would also say that I bought a high street stores own brand nipple shields to add to my "collection" and the Avent ones win hands down, they are a firmer plastic making baby open his mouth wider thus attach easier to the breast when you make the switch to shield free breastfeeding.
A must buy before baby arrives
